Reduciner
Leveraging VTT's extensive experience in industrial electrification, Reduciner combines electrification with the utilization of carbon dioxide, providing a highly cost-effective alternative for significant emissions reductions.
Our approach makes it possible to indirectly electrify combustion-based processes. Rather than redesigning and rebuilding furnaces, kilns, or boilers, industries can keep using their existing systems while switching to a cleaner fuel produced from renewable power and carbon dioxide.
In addition, our approach enables a hybrid energy solution. When electricity is low-cost and abundant, carbon monoxide rich syngas is produced and used. When electricity is expensive, traditional fuels can be used. Companies using this technology reduce both their operating costs and their CO₂ emissions – creating a win-win for business and the climate.
Our long-term target is to produce syngas also for the production of synthetic hydrocarbons – such as methanol, e-fuels, and sustainable aviation fuel. Using carbon monoxide rich syngas for e-fuels can reduce overall costs by 25–30% compared to direct CO₂ conversion. For a large-scale project worth several billion euros, this translates into hundreds of millions in savings – without compromising output or reliability.
