Jussi Tuovinen appointed CEO Kvanttinova, Finland’s microelectronics and quantum technology RDI Hub

Jussi Tuovinen has been nominated as CEO of Kvanttinova, effective from February 3, 2025. Kvanttinova is an industry-driven piloting and development hub that offers facilities for development of microelectronics and quantum technology. It is a joint initiative by VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, Aalto University, the City of Espoo and the industry members of the semiconductor industry group of Technology Industries of Finland.

Jussi Tuovinen (DSc) brings over three decades of rich experience in building RDI collaborative schemes and operations in deep tech. He has been active in initiating and leading several international and national operations and building services in Finland, the USA, France and Ireland.

Recently, Tuovinen has served as the CEO and Co-Founder of JoyHaptics Ltd, specialising in health and wellbeing technology. Prior to this, he was the Executive Director of the CRANN Institute at Trinity College Dublin, where he was responsible for the kick-off of the 60-million-euro AMBER Research Programme with globally leading industrial partners. Earlier in his career, as Vice President of VTT, he played a pivotal role in the Micronova Innovation Hub for a long time. He has also held the position of Chair of the Board of the Heterogeneous Technology Alliance (HTA), which unites major European RDI players in micro- and nanotechnology. Additionally, he has been the Director of the joint centre of excellence Millilab, a collaboration between Aalto University and VTT, which serves as the ESA External Laboratory for Millimeter Waves. Furthermore, he is a member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.   

Kvanttinova focuses on pre-commercial development work

Kvanttinova is an industry-driven piloting and development hub that offers piloting facilities for development of microelectronics and quantum technology. Its unique piloting environment focuses on pre-commercial development and targets to offer a pilot line for small-volume manufacturing and scale-up. 

Kvanttinova is a joint R&D Hub by VTT, Aalto University, the City of Espoo and companies focusing on the development of microelectronics and quantum technologies. 

As part of the hub, VTT’s shared pilot lines have received EUR 79 million in funding from the Finnish government. Aalto University’s research broadly supports the needs of companies in areas such as materials research and design expertise.
