VTT develops service concepts for modular and configurable spaces based on functional and operational needs. This allows for re-use of materials and modular blocks and minimises the need for demolitions.  

What if your building, instead of consuming energy and contributing to CO2 emissions, actually produced, stored, and sold clean energy? VTT provides solutions to support a paradigm shift towards carbon neutrality, and energy efficient buildings are a major contributor towards this goal. While new smart buildings will be energy positive (producing more energy than using energy), older ones will be made less energy intensive and more energy efficient through smart renovation.

What if your “dumb” building structure suddenly became smart? VTT is developing new materials with embedded sensors that will make existing “dumb” building structures energy efficient, self-optimised based on use, configurable based on need and offer significant reductions in operational and maintenance costs. Maintenance will no longer be reactive, but proactive (fix it before it breaks). Buildings will be continuously monitored and maintained based on demand and well in advance of any system failure.
