Espoo, Jyväskylä, Oulu & Kajaani
Researchers' Night is an open science event that makes science and the
work of scientists familiar to audiences all over Europe. Over the
course of the day and throughout the night, children, adolescents,
adults, older people, students and entrepreneurs can get to know more
about science through workshops, meetings with researchers, lectures and
laboratory visits. The next European Researchers' Night will be held in
around 300 cities simultaneously across Europe on September 27th, 2019.
VTTers will present their research in Espoo, Jyväskylä and Oulu.
Below is a list of events where VTT will be represented.

Different paths to innovation - how to create impact from science?
Science will save the world! Especially applied science. Climate change, air pollution, health hazards and suffering water systems: it´s easy to get overwhelmed by all the massive problems around. We've accepted the challenge!
Solving global problems requires thinking big and putting oneself on the line as a research scientist, engineer and a person. On stage Member of Parliament from the Greens, Atte Harjanne, and VTT researcher, Smart Built Environment expert, Pekka Tuominen. Topic: Climate change and energy solutions.
Come and hear pitches from VTT's researchers about their innovative science-based solutions to global challenges. You'll hear, for instance, about cheese without cows, energy storage materials saving the environment and next-generation leather without animals.
Light snacks and refreshments will be provided! Limited number of seats, so be an early bird!

|Solving global problems requires thinking big!|
On stage Member of Parliament from the Greens, Atte Harjanne and VTT Smart Built Environment researcher Pekka Tuominen. Discussion topic: Climate change and energy solutions.
Atte is a first term MP, member of the city council of Helsinki, researcher and most of all a strong advocate of science-based climate policy. Pekka has a strong background in economics and energy technology with over a decade of R&D experience.

Pop-up laboratory to see balloon explosion and make fibre foaming
Have you seen how balloon explosion looks like in slow motion? How about the crash of the toy cars? For example these and other things you can see via high speed camera at VTT's pop-up laboratory. Do you know how to foam wood fibres and where to use those? Come and make your own wood fibre foam and create for example your own card for Father's day!
Time: 17:00 - 21:00
Location: Ylistönrinne's YO-building, student laboratory, Survontie 9, 40500 Jyväskylä

Bubbling sand and black soldier fly larvae
Why there is tons of bubbling sand in the power plant boiler? How electricity is transformed into fuels? Do you know how black soldier fly larvae look like and how they can be utilized in the circular economy? Come and find out answers to these questions and see living insects in VTTs stand at Agora!
Time: 14.00 - 20.00
Location: Agora main lobby, Mattilanniemi 2, 40100 Jyväskylä

VTT MIKES staff present at European Researchers Night 2019
You are welcome to visit VTT MIKES stand at European Researchers Night 2019 held in Kauppapaikka 18 Kajaani. There you can see and learn how force is measured. Also new clock representing Finland's time UTC(MIKE), maintained by atomic clocks in Otaniemi and Kajaani, is present. The clock will be installed in an appropriate location in Kajaani for serving citizens (see www.mikes.fi for how to synchronize your computer using our public NTP service). A miniature model of the working force machine and build up system for measuring force at MN range is present at VTT's stand. Please visit and see us. We will be happy to answer your questions. May the force be with you.
