Drone Test Center at Ouluzone
VTT’s drone testing area at Ouluzone is designed for comprehensive evaluation of unmanned aviation solutions. Spanning 4,800 km², it includes forests, fields, water bodies and swamps, enabling testing for challenging conditions such as cold, moisture and ice accumulation. The 150 kilometres long, 20 kilometres wide corridor supports beyond visual line of sight (BVLOS) operations and extended flight routes.
In the testing area, manufacturers and operators can test swarm autonomy, intelligent algorithms, communication reliability and collision avoidance. The facility also supports multi-platform operations integrating aerial, land and water vehicles for logistics, rescue and surveillance. Future developments will include testing resilience against electronic interference, spoofing and countermeasures, as well as heavier and high-altitude drones.
