New VTT premises in support of innovation and growth

News, Company news

VTT will lease new premises from Otaniemi, which will be ready in 2020. Additional premises will be designed and built in Otaniemi in 2020-2024. They will offer a modern working environment for almost 900 VTT employees. Technopolis Plc is having the premises constructed.

VTT and Technopolis Plc have signed a lease of office building. It has also been agreed to design and build two buildings for VTT's purposes for research and laboratory use. The premises will be built to Tekniikantie, Otaniemi, in three stages between 2020 and 2024. The new VTT premises will provide an improved setting for modern working methods and research. Flexible space solutions will also provide a more supportive environment for customer collaboration.

"We need new ways of working in response to rapidly changing customer needs and business environments. The new premises will enable networked activities and bring our first-rate expertise together under a single roof. New opportunities for cooperation will support VTT's growth and transformation in pursuit of its goals. We can offer our customers even better solutions and attract new talent to our community," says Antti Vasara, President & CEO.

Versatile space solutions

VTT's lease with Technopolis includes an option for flexibly expanding the size of the premises. This will enable a rapid response to changing needs such as new, space-demanding projects. Workspaces can also be offered to customers, providing a more flexible framework for the implementation of various cooperative projects or ecosystems.

The project will not entail any changes in the operations or research infrastructure of Micronova, the Nuclear Safety House, Mikes or the Research Hall at Otaniemi. Bioruukki, located in Kivenlahti, Espoo, and its staff will continue to operate normally.

Personnel involved in planning

The VTT employees moving into the new premises will be included in the planning work from the very beginning of the project. They will be actively engaged in creating the new working environment and new ways working practices.

"The new premises provide a shared workspace for all those moving there. Our key asset is our employees and their expertise, and we want VTT personnel to be involved in building the new community from the very beginning," comments Antti Vasara.
