New member to VTT’s executive team: Petri Järvinen has been appointed as SVP of Operational Excellence, Digitalization and Sustainability

News, Press release

VTT wants to further strengthen its customer- and research-oriented operating model and culture, as well as to utilize data, AI and sustainability in daily operations and management. Petri Järvinen has been appointed as Senior Vice President in Operational Excellence, Digitalization and Sustainability and as a member of VTT’s executive team from 1 April 2024. He has previously worked at Neova (previously Vapo) where he was responsible for management of supply chain and sustainability, quality and work safety issues. At VTT he will be reporting directly to VTT’s CEO Antti Vasara.

“When it comes to the future of RD&I activities, excellent operating models, digitalization, artificial intelligence and responsibility play a decisive role. We are investing even more strongly in customer- and research-oriented ways of working, tools and culture. Our goal is to strengthen the impact of our research work and respond more quickly to the rapidly growing challenges of our operating environment”, says President and CEO Antti Vasara.

Petri Järvinen has extensive experience in management, implementing changes and in leading development of sustainability and operational activities. He has worked in national and international organizations in versatile business branches: in Unilever, Nokia, Mölnlycke Health Care, Coop and Kymmene.

“I got excited about VTT's purpose of building a better future and exponential hope through research, technology and innovation. It's great to be able to work for these purposes and I'm sure I will have a chance to learn a lot. Responsibility and digitization are cross-cutting themes, and in my future role I want to ensure the creation of added value through them for the business, customers and employees”, says Järvinen.

The change is a continuation of the transformation that started in 2015, when VTT was incorporated. Over the past few years, VTT has strongly developed its strategy, research areas, organization, customer work, management, culture and brand in order to meet the changing operating environment.

“We are aiming for significant growth in the coming years. Everything we do must serve our customers and research work. Agility and simplification of our ways of working support quality, productivity and employee satisfaction, and ensure success in the future as well”, says Vasara.
