NOVUM's open technology platform launched to improve the cellulose electrical insulation production

NOVUM, a research project supported by the European Commission to improve the cellulose electrical insulation production technique, was launched it Open Technology Platform in October 2019. The project brings together the following three technologies: 3D printing, thermoforming and foam forming of cellulose for electrical insulation.

The objective of the Open Technology Platform is to raise interest in the cellulose-based materials and the processing technologies developed in NOVUM in other potential stakeholders or the general public.

Cellulose is a common raw material in electrical insulation components. However, the production of high-quality products is labour-intensive and slow. Scientists are solving these problems by developing new processing solutions in the EU-funded NOVUM project. Significant improvements will also be made in intensifying resource efficiency and reducing energy consumption and operation costs.

NOVUM is coordinated by VTT (Finland). The other partners are ABB (Poland), ecoXpac (Denmark), 3dTech (Finland), RMA (Poland), Vertech (France), Exergy (UK), J. Rettenmaier & Söhne (Germany), AhlströmMunksjö (France) and AGH University Science and Technology (Poland).
 
The Open Technology Platform will be accessible directly through the header of Novum website. The idea behind this section is to disseminate the project advances and integration of agile technologies for processing cellulose materials generated to raise awareness on larger industrial and research, so this knowledge is as much spread as possible.

The Open Platform Technology consists of a collection of articles written by consortium partners. These articles will provide updates on the technical advancement of the project and focus on showing expertise in cellulose electrical insulation production techniques. 

The Open Platform Technology will be updated during the all duration of the project which will provide content for readers to engage with. The first article, written by consortium coordinator VTT, was launched in October 2019, and is already raising interest in the industry.
