HyCom Core and VTT drive scalable and sustainable connectivity and computing

Energy efficiency in connectivity and computing is crucial not only from an ecological perspective, but also because data centres typically operate within a limited power budget. Every unit of energy saved from connectivity can be redirected to computation. HyCom Core is developing optical interconnect solutions in collaboration with VTT to improve energy efficiency in connectivity and computing.

The capacity of AI computing is expected to more than quadruple within a year, yet current data transmission solutions cannot keep up with this pace. One of the major bottlenecks lies in internal data transmission connections within the data centre. While the processed data can be transmitted rapidly, increasingly complex computational tasks take more and more time for AI to process, resulting in significant latency.

HyCom Core is developing novel optical interconnect solutions from device technology to systems for today and tomorrow in collaboration with VTT. 

The goal is to enable AI architecture in which the data centre’s computing units work seamlessly together, thereby enabling the full utilization of AI computing capacity.
