Change negotiations related to VTT’s new operating model have concluded

The change negotiations related to VTT’s new operating model, which began on 27 April 2026, have been concluded. VTT is renewing its organisation and will combine its three business areas into two. The aim is to invest in growth areas and create significant impact through research.

The new business areas, Digital systems and Materials and energy, will strengthen synergies between research themes and establish more unified operating practices, while reducing overlaps between different functions. In addition, VTT will establish a new unit to strengthen the use of artificial intelligence in research and to increase digital capabilities across research activities.

As a result of the change negotiations, VTT will discontinue some tasks and roles in support functions and research. Consequently, the employment of 175 people will end VTT takes its personnel into account during the change and offers support in several ways.

VTT will publish its new strategy on 3 June 2026. The aim of the strategy is to support Finland’s growth and create even greater impact: to support growth companies, help industry renew itself and strengthen the resilience of society. VTT intends to focus in particular on technology areas that are critical to Finland’s economic growth and competitiveness, as well as on strengthening Finland’s capabilities in comprehensive security. In addition, VTT will place an increased emphasis on the creation of new startup companies.

VTT’s new operating model will take effect on 1 August 2026.
