Dr. Pezhman Mohammadi is a Senior Research Scientist at VTT and Adjunct Professor in protein engineering, working at the intersection of molecular engineering, biomaterials, and synthetic biology. He develops next-generation protein/peptide-based materials that translate nature’s design principles into high-performance solutions for high added value biomedical and industrial applications.
His research follows a three-layer strategy: bioinspiration, biomimetic design, and accelerated discovery. He investigates how natural biological materials achieve remarkable strength, adaptability, and multi-function across length scales. He also uses protein engineering, recombinant DNA technology, and advanced fabrication to create biomimetic proteins and hybrid nanocomposites in forms such as fibers, hydrogels, microspheres, micelles, and thin films, to name a few. Dr. Pezhman also combines state-of-the-art machine learning, and multiscale computational modeling to accelerate the discovery and optimization of tailored biomaterials. His goal is to make the design of sustainable, functional materials faster, more predictable, and more scalable.
