Circular economy

Topic

In VTT’s vision, circular economy is an important step towards a sustainable economy in which material, value and information are truly integrated.

In a world of decreasing resources there really are no materials to waste. New ways to produce, manufacture and consume are needed in the future. Circular economy has the potential to make life sustainable for future generations and also to create business opportunities for businesses today.

VTT develops technologies, processes and business models to suit the transition from a linear economy to a circular one and beyond. We help our clients in assessing what they can do better already today and where to strive in the future.

Technologies, processes and business models to suit the transition from a linear economy to a circular one and beyond.

The transition to a sustainable economy requires collaboration that crosses industrial and business-sector borders and engages research and development organizations, civil society, policy makers and education systems.

As with all systemic challenges, everything ultimately culminates in data, data connectivity, and open data sharing across different platforms. In a circular economy, the role of consumers also plays a key role. There is a great need for personalized and easy-to-understand, fact-based communication. This is a challenge which researchers like us are excited to tackle.
