VTT and the Graduate School of Medicine at Kyoto University formally signed a Letter of Intent on 13 March 2026 to collaborate on cutting-edge research in digital health. The signing ceremony, held in Kyoto, marked a significant step toward strengthening ties between Finland and Japan in health technology innovation.
The partnership focuses on human-centred care, the generation of personal health records (PHR) using sensing technologies, AI-driven analysis and utilisation of healthcare data as well as addressing and improving usability of digital healthcare solutions. By combining the expertise and networks of both organisations, it is possible to achieve impactful research and create innovations for the healthcare sector.
The agreement was signed by Kari Rönkä, Vice President of VTT and Professor Taku Iwami from Kyoto University. The ceremony was attended by H.E. Mr. Takashi Okada, Ambassador of Japan to Finland and representatives from the Japan External Trade Organisation JETRO.
