Tomio Pihkala, Member of Kone's Executive Board, Chief Technology officer, has been appointed as the seventh member of VTT's Board of Directors as of 1 May 2025.
Pihkala has worked at Kone Corporation for 24 years, and since 2013 he has been a member of the company's Executive Board in various roles, including Executive Vice President of New Equipment Business, Chief Technology Officer, Executive Vice President of Development Business, and Vice President of Technology Finland.
Tomio Pihkala is a member of the Board of the Finnish Foundation for Technology Promotion and Toshiba Elevator and Building Systems Corporation. In addition, he has served as the Vice Chair of VTT's Advisory Board for Machinery, Vehicles and Logistics in 2012−2013.
Tomio Pihkala brings to VTT's Board of Directors a view on the management of technological innovations and digital transformation in the international operating environment and market.
