Dr Emmi Heinisuo is a Research Scientist at VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, working on the organisational and societal implementation of emerging technologies, particularly AI. Her work focuses on how new technologies can be developed and adopted in ways that support organisations, work practices and people in complex real-world environments.
Heinisuo has experience in multidisciplinary research and development projects across public and private sectors, ranging from healthcare and public administration to software development and industrial environments. Her work combines academic research, practical development work, project leadership, stakeholder collaboration and competitive RDI funding. She is interested in organisational transformation related to AI adoption, socio-technical change, and the practical implementation of responsible technologies. In practice, this has involved developing collaboration models, tools and approaches that support organisations in integrating emerging technologies into everyday operations and decision-making as well as for technology developers seeking to address the responsible design and development.
She has worked in large national and international RDI projects as a project manager, work package lead and researcher involving multidisciplinary collaboration across research organisations, industry and the public sector. She supports public authorities, research institutions, and private sector partners to co-develop responsible technology solutions that align with societal values and regulatory expectations. Her experience includes facilitating stakeholder engagement, operationalising responsibility practices, and supporting strategic decision-making in innovation processes.
