Multiscale modelling for optimal material design

VTT ProperTune® is an Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) concept VTT has developed over the last two decades. It uses multiscale modelling for optimal material design, replacing expensive, time consuming testing and shortening time-to-market for new products by an average of 50%. It allows you to create microstructurally accurate materials and load in realistic conditions – everything digital.

VTT ProperTune® has been developed together with our industrial partners and applied to their critical components in mechanical machines and devices. It can parse massive amounts of data to virtually model and analyse material behavior on component, microstructural and atomic scales. It is used to optimise a wide variety of material properties such as lifetime endurance, wear and corrosion resistance, and fracture and fatigue durability.

How to apply material microstructure to full-scale systems?

The core concept of Integrated Computational Materials Engineering (ICME) is to provide a systematic requirement based design approach and provide a digital framework for material discovery, design and optimization exploiting AI/ML technologies. VTT ProperTune® enables rapid development and deployment of ICME solutions. This is achieved by using multiscale modelling and material design approaches such as the Process-Structure-Properties-Performance (PSPP) principle.
