VTT was again successful in Universum's annual survey of professionals' perceptions of different employers. A particularly significant rise was seen among natural sciences professionals, who ranked VTT 4th as their ideal employer, up from 12th in the previous year.

Every year, Universum surveys how professionals across different sectors know employers and which organisations they consider as ideal workplaces. This year's results were published on 17 September 2024, and VTT emerged as one of the biggest risers among science professionals.

”Being ranked fourth in the list of ideal employers for natural sciences professionals is a great achievement! We've been actively attracting natural sciences talent in recent years, so it's great to see the work paying off. A good employer image also helps with recruitment. In the current market situation, I believe that top talent will appreciate VTT as a responsible employer offering varied tasks and long-term development opportunities,” says Anna Schoonover, Team Leader of Talent Acquisition & Employer Branding team.

According to the survey, 13% of natural sciences professionals consider VTT as an ideal workplace and 81% of them recognise VTT. Of engineering professionals, 6% chose VTT as an ideal workplace and 91% of them recognise VTT. Among engineering professionals, VTT was the 14th most ideal employer (in 2023: 6th).

Variety of assignments is of interest

The Universum survey also looked at what attributes make an ideal employer. According to the survey, a competitive base salary, variety of assignments, and flexible working conditions are the most important factors for both engineering and natural sciences professionals. When it comes to what they value purely in organisational culture, natural sciences professionals emphasise a friendly work environment, encouraging work-life balance, and respect for its people. Engineering professionals, on the other hand, value respect for its people, a friendly work environment, and leaders who will support their development.

”The factors raised by science and engineering professionals are also important to us at VTT as we aim to build the world’s most meaningful place to work. According to our employee survey, VTT employees consider their jobs to be varied and the working atmosphere to be appreciative, friendly and caring for the well-being of employees,” says Iris Lagerström, Head of Rewarding and Talent Attraction.

The Universum survey was conducted between October 2023 and June 2024. A total of 8605 professionals from 48 industries and 36 professional groups responded. Among the respondents were 1,873 engineering professionals and 311 natural sciences professionals.
