European Researchers' Night 2017

​​European Researchers’ Night is an open science event that makes science and the work of scientists familiar to audiences all over Europe. Over the course of the day and throughout the night, children, adolescents, adults, and older people can get to know more about science through workshops, meetings with researchers, lectures and laboratory visits. The next European Researchers’ Night will be held in around 300 cities simultaneously across Europe on September 29th, 2017. VTTers will present their research in Espoo, Oulu, Jyväskylä and Tampere.

Dipoli

This year the programme in Espoo is part of the Otaniemi Technology Days (Otaniemen Tekniikan Päivät) programme in collaboration with Aalto University. The event will take place at the newly renovated Dipoli.

Come and see Lauri Reuter and his demo of a futuristic magic pot intended for growing “berries” from plant cells right in your own kitchen. Kaisa Poutanen will be talking about the latest developments in the food and nutrition sector and Marketta Niemelä about the help that robots might give to elderly people in the future. Meet also other VTT researchers showing examples of VTT’s wellbeing applications used for diagnostics, stress detection and sports analytics. The detailed programme will published soon.

This year it is possible to participate in the event in Espoo, Helsinki, Joensuu, Jyväskylä, Kajaani, Kuopio, Lahti, Oulu, Rovaniemi, Savonlinna, Sodankylä, Tampere, Turku and Vantaa. In addition to VTT, European Researchers’ Night in Finland is organised by 10 different universities, the Federation of Finnish Learned Societies, the Heureka Science Centre and the European Forest Institute.        

 

Researcher’s Night is one of Finland 100 centenary events.
