IEEE FLEPS 2024 Workshop analysing how Circular and Sustainable Electronics can be designed, manufactured and transferred into successful business.

WHAT?

The workshop aims to explore how circular and sustainable electronics can be designed, manufactured and transferred into successful business in alignment with the EU environmental agendas. It will cover the topics of ecodesign, circularity, digital product passports, resource efficiency and renewable materials for flexible electronics. 

HOW?

The workshop will kick-off with a plenary presentation from high-level policy maker Sirpa Pietikäinen (Member of European Parliament). Thereafter we will hear examples of technical advances enabling the sustainability leap for flexible electronics industry. Finally, industrial examples of implementation of sustainable approach will be given.  Presentations will be followed by a facilitated, interactive brainstorming session on case scenarios of circular business models for electronics. 

TO WHOM?

The workshop targets researchers, industrial stakeholders, product developers, decision makers and business developers working with flexible electronics, as well as engineering students and researchers with circular economy background.

  • 9:05 – 9:30 Plenary talk on high level agendas for sustainability by Sirpa Pietikäinen, Member of European Parliament  
  • 9:30 – 10:00 Technical presentations illustrating practical examples how sustainability has been tackled e.g. through process and material selections by RISE, Sweden and VTT, Finland 
  • 10:00 – 10:10 Break   
  • 10:10 – 10:55 Company presentations on business models based on sustainability agenda by Jani-Mikael Kuusisto from The Warming Surfaces Company, Tilak Lakshmana from Essity Hygiene and Health AB and Amro Abu Zarour from Beneli AB
  • 11:00 – 11:45 Facilitated brainstorming on the circular scenarios Ulla Saari and Fatemeh abedi, TAU  
  • 11:45 – 11:55 Preliminary summary of the scenario work, Fatemeh Abedi, Maria Smolander, Ulla Saari
  • 11:55 – 12:00 Closing of the workshop 


Workshop is linked to the Sustronics project aiming at transformation of European electronics industry with strong focus on green technology and novel business opportunities.
