VTT has once again ranked excellently in Universum's survey of professionals' perceptions of different employers. VTT’s results improved especially among engineering professionals: VTT rose to the 6th place as the most attractive workplace for this group, up from the 15th place last year.

Every year, Universum conducts a survey to find out how familiar professionals from various fields are with different employers, what they would choose as their ideal workplaces, and where they would consider working. The results of this year's professional survey were published on 19 September 2023. VTT was one of the top climbers as an ideal workplace for engineering professionals.

"6th place as the ideal workplace for engineering professionals is a great achievement and important for us in a situation where there is fierce competition for talent. At VTT, we create new ways to overcome major global challenges, and for this, we need the best talent from Finland and globally. It is excellent that VTT is perceived as an attractive place to work," says Anna Schoonover, Team Leader of Talent Acquisition & Employer Branding team.

8% of engineering professionals consider VTT their ideal workplace and 91% of them know us. Among natural science professionals, 7% chose VTT as their ideal workplace and 88% of them said they know VTT.

A work community that values people is attractive – VTT fosters diversity

The Universum survey also looks at factors that are considered important in the workplace. Respect for people came out on top this year among professionals in engineering, IT, business, humanities and law. For natural scientists, the most important factor was a friendly work community.

"We aim to make VTT the world’s most meaningful place to work, where you can do impactful work. A respectful working community is a basic prerequisite for this. For us, this means, among other things, continuously developing diversity, equality and inclusiveness. VTT employs top professionals from a wide range of educational backgrounds, from more than 50 countries and of all ages – it is vital that each of them feels valued as an individual. According to our latest employee engagement survey, we have succeeded in this: VTTers feel that our working community is equal and inclusive," says Iris Lagerström, Head of Rewarding and Talent Attraction.

Engineering and natural science professionals highlighted a respectful and friendly working environment as one of the three top priorities, as well as leaders who support their development. VTT has focused on these areas, for example by training the whole organisation in emotional agency and by experimenting with new collaborative work methods to strengthen community spirit. These efforts have yielded results: overall satisfaction with VTT's organisational culture and leadership work of one’s team leaders was at an excellent level in the latest employee engagement survey.

Universum's survey was conducted between October 2022 and June 2023. A total of 7776 professionals from 48 industries and 36 professional groups responded to it. Among the respondents were 1476 professionals in the engineering field and 315 professionals in natural sciences.
