We can recover as much as 80% of the gold from cell-phone scrap by a BIOLOGICAL FILTER made of mushroom mycelium mats. The method makes industrial reprocessing of precious metals easier.
In the future, households may play a significant role as suppliers of electric power to the local but also national grid. In the NEO-CARBON ENERGY project, VTT is developing solutions to problems of the storage of solar and wind energy.
TEXTILE WASTE can be made INTO FABRICS that are even better than the original. Our methods are used for the recycling, decolouring , bleaching and dissolving of textiles. The remaining fibrous material can be melted down and reused in fibre and composite production.
WOOD AND STRAW material can be processed INTO CHEMICALS more efficiently by our new methods. The materials can be broken down into sugars even if the enzyme levels are very low, potentially 60% lower than in traditional pretreatment methods. This will save operating costs in biorefineries.
Polylactide, PLA is a bioplastic made from renewable materials with the help of lactic acid. With our methods FOAMING BIOPLASTICS are made into beads that are further refined into products such as insulation sheets.
Our hybrid processing technologies, mechanical separation combined with bioprocessing, resulted in a tasty, nutritious and PROTEIN-RICH BREAD made FROM 70% FABA BEAN FLOUR. Our methods can also be used to make 100% faba bean pasta.
