VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland starts as limited liability company


VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland and the Centre for Metrology and Accreditation MIKES amalgamated on 1 January 2015. At the same time, VTT became a limited liability company. Erkki KM Leppävuori is the President and CEO of VTT Ltd.

VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd engages in applied technology research, transforming its research results into practical solutions. It is also Finland's national metrology institute. VTT Ltd uses its research and knowledge to provide expert services for its domestic and international customers and partners in both the private and public sector. VTT Ltd is Finland's biggest applied research organisation and the Nordic countries' leading research and technology company.

VTT brings efficiency boost to world-class research and innovation

Today, R&D and innovation involves providing services in an open market and in an international business environment. VTT is making Finnish research and innovation more dynamic and building closer connections between such research, its customers and international markets. As a limited liability company, VTT can react more sensitively and rapidly to the changes taking place within customer organisations and the business environment, while acting with greater freedom on the financing markets. 

The Chairman of company's Board of Directors is Aaro Cantell, and its Vice Chairman is Matti Hietanen. Other Board members are Kari Knuutila, Harri Leiviskä, Petra Lundström, Anneli Pauli and Kaija Pehu-Lehtonen.

VTT's name

The Finnish name of this fully state-owned, not-for-profit-company with a specific service mandate is Teknologian tutkimuskeskus VTT Oy. Its Swedish name is Teknologiska forskningscentralen VTT Ab. In English, the company is known as VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland Ltd.

In texts or spoken language, the company can be referred to as simple VTT, or VTT Ltd whenever the official form of company in question is emphasised. The name MIKES will continue to be used as an auxiliary brand name.
