VTT Technical research Centre of
Finland and Danish Technological Institute (DTI) have signed a Letter of Intent
(LoI) on Wednesday 11th May in Otaniemi, Espoo. The
cooperation will focus on analysis, testing, coatings and application oriented
solutions in the field of tribology.
Tribology is the science of friction,
wear and lubrication of surfaces in contact. The typical application areas are
machine design, components and manufacturing technologies.
has excellence in development, design and manufacturing of thin films and
coatings. Thanks to this cooperation we can offer high-level tribological
analysis and testing for demanding applications, says Director Lars
Pleth Nielsen from DTI.
- This agreement gives us the
possibility to offer novel and tailor made surface solutions to our customers.
We have a world class laboratory infrastructure and very unique know-how on
modelling of the tribological phenomenon in micro or even at the atomic level,
say Principal Scientist Helena Ronkainen from VTT.
The first collaborative project will
be funded by Danish partner and the application area is wind power generation.
Discussions of collaboration have been opened with several Finnish industrial
customers as well.
