Mikko Merimaa, D.Sc. (Tech.), will transfer from VTT MIKES Metrology and has been appointed as Vice President, Research in VTT's knowledge intensive products and services business area starting from 1st December 2017. He has strong experience in research and line management. He has also previous experience in many of the technologies related to knowledge intensive products and services.
In his new position Merimaa will be in charge of the business area's research focus and activities, achieving profit targets and ensuring and developing scientific excellence both in Finland and through international networks.
"I am a forward-looking visionary. Recognizing and developing new research possibilities and promoting collaboration networks, customer growth and social impacts motivate me", Merimaa says.
"We will combine, according to our strategy, the expertise of the whole VTT in order to produce solutions for the needs of customers and society. It is my task as the vice president of research to develop the customer orientation of organization with challenge- and target-based research by crossing the borders of business areas", he emphasizes.
"Merimaa has an extensive experience in our 'silicon to cloud' technologies stretching from microelectronics to digital services. He has already in his previous role actively taken part in VTT's strategy work and the change management. This will give him an excellent starting point for the new position", Petri Kalliokoski, Executive Vice President in VTT's knowledge intensive products and services business area, says.
Merimaa has already as the Vice President in VTT MIKES Metrology research area concluded many co-operation agreements with European research parties and metrology institutes and promoted scientific top know-how by networking in different science communities. Additionally, he is Finland's representative in The European Association of National Metrology Institutes, Euramet.
