VTT and Aalto University are organizing the New business from digital spare parts workshop in co-operation with Technology Industries of Finland. The aim of the workshop is to present the DIVALIITO research project and current activities related to digital spare parts. Interactive part of the seminar focuses on thoughts of the companies on digitizing spare parts.
Currently approximately 5% of all spare parts are suited for digital spare parts: they could be stored and transported digitally and manufactured based on need utilizing 3D printing close to the end user. Digital spare parts are already utilized by e.g. automotive industry, however, widening of implementation on those need more research and development: tools on digitizing spare parts, 3D printing materials, quality assurance and manufacturing processes. The future vision is 10% of spare parts will be digital, the technology will be reliable and high quality, and new spare part concepts will have entered the market.
DIVALIITO joint action comprises a strategic public research project of VTT and Aalto University and two corporate R&D projects funded by Business Finland. Six Finnish enterprises of different sizes are participating in the project. The project is continuation for DIVA (Digital spare parts) project 2016-2017.
