Photonics Friday 21 October: Explore optics, optoelectronics and photonics on the Day of Photonics

What is light and how can light waves be invisible? And what do we call light particles? Are you interested in strobing plastics, smart light or disposable sensors? Welcome to exploring the secrets of optics, optoelectronics and photonics at VTT's facilities in either Oulu or Espoo on the international Day of Photonics on 21 October.

Together with Aalto University and the University of Oulu, VTT will open its doors to the public on the Day of Photonics. The programme includes activities for children and presentations for companies and research groups in the sector. The aim is to familiarise everyone with optics, optoelectronics and photonics.

An industry forum, where companies will provide information on the current status and future outlook of the sector, will be organised as part of the Oulu event. Within a short period, ten photonics companies – which are benefiting from the expertise of VTT and the University of Oulu – have been started up in the Oulu region. These companies are likely to bring new jobs to the region. Future challenges include a shortage of trained workforce.
